Santiago Ortiz-Perez obtained his Medical Degree in 2004 at the University of Granada. He trained in Ophthalmology at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. In 2009 he moved to London to do his first fellowship in oculoplastics with Mrs Jane Olver and Mr Naresh Joshi. In 2013 he did a clinical fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital gaining experience in eyelid, lacrimal, and orbital surgery. He lives now in the beautiful city of Granada, in the south of Spain, where he is the head of the Ophthalmology department at the University Hospital Virgen de las Nieves, an associated professor PhD at the University of Granada and a researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Research of Granada. He is a regular lecturer at national and international meetings, has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers, and several books and book chapters. He also does collaborations as a medical illustrator. His main areas of interest are eyelid reconstruction and ptosis, orbital inflammation with a special interest in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy, and orbital surgery.
