Santiago Ortiz Perez


  • Medical Degree in 2004 at the University of Granada (Spain).
  • Training in Ophthalmology (2005 to 2009) Hospital Clinic of Barcelona (Spain).
  • Associate professor of Ocular Pathology from 2007 to 2009 (Polytechnic University of Cataluña – UPC).
  • Areas of interest: eyelid, lacrimal and orbital pathology as well as neuro-ophthalmology.
  • Fellowship in oculoplastics, lacrimal and orbital pathology at The Western Ophthalmic and Chelsea & Westminster Hospitals for one year (Sept 2009 – Aug 2010).
  • Research collaborator at the Neuroimmunology Group of IDIBAPS from 2010 (doing several research projects, papers, lectures, etc).
  • Clinical fellowship (oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery) in Moorfields Eye Hospital (London) in 2013 for one year.
  • Ph.D. in 2015 (University of Barcelona – Spain).
  • Community doctor (triaging doctor) for The Practice Ltd. From 2013 to 2019.
  • 2014 to 2019: consultant ophthalmologist (Hospital Clinic, Barcelona) and teaching collaborator of the University of Barcelona. Head of the outpatient section at the same Hospital from March 2018.
  • 2019 to present: consultant ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon (Hospital Universitario Virgen de las Nieves, Granada – Spain).
  • Private Practice: Clínica Baviera (Málaga, Spain).
  • Frequent lecturer in national and international ophthalmological meetings.
  • More than 30 papers publications, author of 2 books and 3 chapters.
  • Regular collaborations as a medical illustrator.
