Fornix Reconstruction and Simple Limbal Epithelial Transplantation After Thermal Burn Injury. A 6 year follow up

Purpose
In chemical and thermal burns, treatment modalities are limited, and all aspects of different pathologies need to be addressed.
In former times the aim primarily was alleviation of symptoms and prevention of disease progression.
By addressing conjunctival stem cells and simple limbal epithelial transplantation (SLET) we got further tools in treatment of these pathologies
Methods
We describe the difficult surgical management of the interface of ocular surface and lids in severe thermal burn in a follow up of 6 years
Results
We show the results of fornix reconstruction, upper eyelid entropion surgery, SLET and conjunctival stem cell tx in a case with a 6 year follow up
Conclusion
In thermal burns all aspects of different pathologies need to be addressed.
Stem cell transplantation offers new opportunities in the difficult management of severe thermal burns.
