Welcome to the International Society of Dacryology and Dry Eye

Welcome to ISD-DE, the International Society for Watery and Dry Eyes. ISD-DE aims to advance Dacryology via this website, its Membership and the Congress.

2024 is named ¨The Year of the Tear¨

The XIVth Congress 29th – 31st May 2024, London

29th – 31st May 2024 we will run the XIVth Congress: the Update Course on the Wednesday 29th May and the Scientific Meeting 30th and 31st May.

Later in 2024 and early 2025 we will update the society logo and the 1982 constitution. We will apply to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

We encourage you to participate in the 2024 London Congress and to take up Membership of ISD-DE.

What is Dacryology? It is the science and clinical practice of tears, their production, their constituents and role, their journey across the surface of the eye, the function of the eyelids in relation to the tears, the ocular surface health, tear drainage via the lacrimal drainage system into the nose, and the nasal space and mucosal lining, in health and disease. The causes of watering and dry eyes are multifactorial and may occur separately or overlap.

ISD-DE is for Medical and Allied Healthcare Practitioners:

  • Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and Otolalyngologists (ENT).
  • Corneal and external ocular surface and the oculoplastic and lacrimal Ophthalmologists, since tears flow over the surface of the eye and into the nose
  • Optometrists interested in watering and dry eyes
  • Contact Lens Opticians

ISD-DE is also for patients:
Maintaining clear vision and comfortable eyes. The tears functioning well on the ocular surface are essential for clear vision, ocular health and comfort.
