Professor Sai Kolli is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. He was appointed in 2011 and is the lead consultant for cornea and external eye disease, cataract and refractive surgery at University Hospitals Birmingham.
He has expertise in cornea and external eye disease, leads the corneal transplantation service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and has a special interest in ocular surface disease and dry eye. He also runs a specialist dry eye clinic at Aston University.
Professor Kolli studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and then began his Ophthalmology career over 20 years ago and has trained in some of the most prestigious units in the UK. He completed 3 years of academic research in the field of corneal stem cell biology culminating in the award of a PhD in 2009. Professor Kolli is fellowship trained in cornea and external eye disease as well as cataract and refractive surgery. He completed his specialist training at Moorfields Eye Hospital where he started as a consultant in 2010. In 2011, he moved to Birmingham to head up the corneal department at University Hospitals Birmingham where he provides a tertiary referral service for cornea, external eye disease and cataract.
Professor Kolli is a national expert in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery and teaches and lectures across the UK and internationally. He is an Honorary Professor at Aston University.
