Mr Nizar Din, FRCOphth
Consultant in Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery
Mr Nizar Din is a Consultant Ophthalmologists with a sub-specialty interest in Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He received two prestigious scholarships to study medicine at Imperial College London, before graduating with a distinction in medical sciences.
He then successfully secured the 7-year ophthalmology training programme including rotating through the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England. During this time, he was awarded numerous national and international awards for teaching, research and management and became a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2017. This culminated in securing the cornea, external diseases and refractive fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2019. He was subsequently selected as one of only two international fellows for the highly reputable cornea and refractive fellowship at the University of Toronto (2020-2022) and received numerous travel scholarships including the Ethicon Fund and Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) International Fund. During this period, he performed quaternary-level cornea transplants, cataract surgery, anterior segment reconstructions and manages external diseases. He was selected to be Chief Fellow for the Department of Ophthalmology in Toronto in 2022, and was awarded the prestigious Lim Memorial Award, for the “graduating fellow for exemplary excellence in surgical skill, kindness, intelligence and teaching skills.” In late 2022, he returned to London to assume a Consultant position at Western Eye Hospital, part of Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust.
He has a special interest in research with over 41 peer-reviewed publications in leading Ophthalmology journals, regularly speaks at national and international conferences and was recently awarded the “Best Ophthalmologist under 40 award” at the International Society of Cornea, Stem Cells and Ocular Surface (SICSSO) in 2023.
