Melanie Corbett is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at The Western Eye Hospital, Imperial NHS Trust, London. She specialises in cornea, ocular surface and anterior segment. Her MD thesis was on corneal wound healing, she published a textbook on corneal topography and over 70 peer-reviewed publications. Miss Corbett was President of the Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association and hosted the European Medical Contact Lens Conference. Her current special interests include high risk corneal grafting, ocular surface disease, and complex cataract / anterior segment reconstruction.
Miss Corbett also has major roles in training and education, both locally and nationally. She has particular interests in surgical training and trainee development within her own unit. As a Training Programme Director she had responsibility for the delivery and quality assurance of training within the London Deanery.
For The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) she has led Training the Trainers Programme nationally and overseas for over 10 years. She has been Chair of the Education Committee and a member of the Executive Committee and the Trustee Board. She is currently Lead for Digital Learning, Senior Editor of INSPIRE the College’s online learning platform, and Lead for the Ophthalmic Practitioner Training (OPT) Programme.
